2017 Children’s day Art, Essay and Poetry Competition Results

Congratulations to all the children who took part in the 2017 Young Readers Library Art, Essay and Poetry Competition. The competition had 75 entries from 7 schools and some independent entries. The Theme of the competition was “Children’s day Celebration in Nigeria”.

The entries had 3 judges named:

1. Mr Omem I Valentine- Lecturer, Fine and Applied Art Department, University of Benin, Edo State
2. Mrs Esther U. Peter- Research Assistant, Fine and Applied Art Department, University of Benin, Edo State
3. Mrs Abosede Omojuyigbe- Lecturer, English Department, Baze University, Abuja
The judges were impressed by the entries and the potentials the children displayed. Despite the good report, some children were found to have plagiarized by coping content from the internet while some of the entries showed too much adult interference in the child’s work. This caused some children to lose points to originality. We urge parents/guardians to allow the children express themselves freely and independently.
We commend all the children who participated. We encourage them to keep writing and drawing as you can only get better with more practice. No matter your score, you are still a winner for trying.
